About
Stories of us is a social documentary project by photographer Ursula Kelly to create empowering portraits of people who need to use foodbanks.
This year has seen an increase in record numbers of foodbank users, yet it has slipped from the media spotlight. People need to use foodbanks for many different reasons and their number is growing. By seeing and listening to these experiences we can understand the real nature of the problems people face.
Stories of us will highlight the astonishing number and diversity of people for whom a foodbank is a necessity. The aim of this project is to maintain public awareness of increasing food insecurity and food poverty in the UK and the growing numbers of everyday, often working people who reluctantly need to use foodbanks.
Each participant will have an opportunity to tell their story with dignity. These stories will contribute to changing perceptions around food poverty, with the ultimate aim of helping us all eradicate foodbank reliance.
